Question of the Day: What is Your Favorite Class in Drag Racing?

Question of the Day: What is Your Favorite Class in Drag Racing?

One of the great appeals to the people out there who love drag racing is the diversity in equipment. On any given day at a strip you’ll see dragsters, altereds, door slammers, motorcycles, and other stuff that doesn’t really fit in any specific category. People are attracted to the different types of vehicles for different reasons. Dragsters are the ultimate expression of a competition vehicle, stripped of anything unnecessary to help the car accelerate as quickly as possible in a straight line. Pro Mods are wild and stand as the top dogs of professional level drag racing with respect to cars that have doors. Altereds look like the hot rods of yesteryear with their short wheelbase and ‘rod themed bodies. Funny Cars are just bat crap nuts and have a personality and aura around them that so many people identify with. Stockers and Super Stockers drawn in the guys who are hell bent on seeing just how hard and fast factory equipment can be run and which manufacturer is truly superior at the digs. We could go on for hours with all of the permeations and differences among the hundreds of classes that compete on the asphalt aisle. There’s that many!

So what class does it most for you? When you hit the strip who do you hang on the fence and watch with anticipation? We met lots of people at the ADRL race in Bristol last weekend and many were they to pay specific attention to the legal Pro Mods or the insane Pro Extreme class cars. That’s what got this question rattling around.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite class in drag racing?

I have to go with two classes, Pro Mods and Nostalgia Funny Cars. The Pro Mods because they are the fastest door slammers on wheels and the NFC because they still resemble real cars and the big bucks haven’t came in and taken over the class yet!

nostalgia funny cars . we dont get the big nitro guys up here , not enough money, but for the past few years the nostalgia nitro guys have been putting a freaking awesome show at mission raceway and the fans love it.

AA/FA my very close number 2 choice . Damn i wish they still raced them full on ( not just nostalgia ) Those things were insane back in the day

Pro Mods . Especially when they use pre 1966 bodies . Reminds me a bit of the good ol gasser days .

ProMod,as long as they vary the body styles. Back in the day when Super/Stock evolved to A/FX then to Funny/Car there were many different body styles racing and it was “run what you brung” all out trying to put as much power to the ground in a body style that resembled something you drove on the street. Presently there are too many 68-70 Camaros. When the class first appeared there were 59 Caddys,57 Fords,Lamborginis, Dodge Polaras and don’t forget Christine

I really like Stock. It takes lots of talent to make those cars go as fast as they do, I feel they are very underrated. I also like a good old fashioned local bracket race.
Back in the 70’s at Oswego Drag Raceway we had Run Tuff Eliminator. You had to be faster than 11.50, and you set your dial in at the beginning of the day and that was it. The cars all had names, most had 4 speeds. The Big Animal, Solid Rock, Tighter and Tighter, Daddy’s Thing, Padre’s Goat, Vanishing Vega, Veni Vidi Vici, Dollar After Dollar….those were some great times.

Drag Week Unlimited, followed closely by NHRA stock eliminator, Pro Stock circa 1970 and Drag Week BB/NA

My husband and I went from Pro-Gas to BB/FC(TAF), and finally Pro-mod. I have to say I love the Pro-Mods. Not an easy car to drive, but they are so classy!!! Love them and the ADRL ProXtremes!

Pro Mod rules, I drive the 57 pictured for Don Carter Motorsports Team we race it at the ADRL races in the Extreme 10.5 class, it is one wild but fun ride, they are so unpredictable and keeps you on edge. Can’t think of a more exciting car to drive or watch.

Absolutely nothing beats the AA/Gs cars of the 60’s. A nosebleed Willys is the ultimate race car. These cars were built as no compromise straight line race cars. Jacked up, straight axle cars speak for themselves.

    AA/FA
Full Blown Nitro, Short Wheelbase, Minimum Body and just a hint of aerodynamics, Straight Ahead but Sideways, and used the whole width of the lane, just hanging on. And that was just the burnout!!!
They also had the best names (not sponsors) on: Nanook, Winged Express, Pure Hell, The Mob, El Toro, Chicago Fire, Pure Heaven, Rat Trap, etc.

B/FX I used to own and drive a “Swiss Cheese” 421 SD Catalina. Most may never have heard of this car, but Google it. I owned a 1963. It now belongs to Mr Mecum (Dana) of Mecum Muscle Cars and More auctions.
