Question of the Day: What is Your Wildest Automotive Fantasy?

Question of the Day: What is Your Wildest Automotive Fantasy?

The earlier blog item about the California general contractor who is working on a home built 2,000mph car got me to thinking about my own far out fantasies in the automotive world. I have no desire to go 2,000mph because frankly that is insane. Well, to me it is anyway. My two biggest crazy items to check off the bucket list are to ride a V8 powered motorcycle (a la EJ Potter) down a drag strip in anger and to drive one of the totally insane Icelandic hill climb trucks that climb volcanoes and skim across the tops of ponds.

Will I ever actually do either of those two things? Meh, who knows, but damn if it isn’t fun to think about it. Driving a monster truck should probably be in there somewhere but it isn’t a top two item. I think these fantasy goals say something about how you view this hobby or how you view your participation in the greater gearhead existence. For me, it is and will always be about experiences. Seeing things, driving things, touching things. For others it is about achievement, record setting, race winning. We all get our kicks from this stuff in a different way.

So, today’s question: What is/are your wildest automotive fantasy (or fantasies)?

too many to choose from… attainable fantasies or not? I race short track asphalt oval in a stock class… But I dream of competing in big block dirt Modifieds, wingless 360 sprints, ISMA Supermodifieds, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series…

Outside of “my” segment of the sport, I’d really love to run the Targa Newfoundland in some form of badass old American muscle. The entry fees are just too damn high. :/

Not super glamorous but I would love to drive a modern day TAFC…preferebly with Glade and Manzo setting me up.

baja is definitely a good one. I’ll remember my simplest one… living in the woods, very quiet, vehicle useless. Seeming no traffic for an hour at a time. Very freaking cold, sounds travel..from a distance a non-siamese bored full fired high compression balls to the wall big block chevrolet..obviously solid lifters. must be the 60s I assume, before it is in sight…shaking the gound as it goes by in the impossible place to live. That is a true story..but it is my daydream as well. (366 chevrolet in a hay truck)

Make a pass at any landspeed event. Drive from coast to coast to see how quick I can do it. Baja 1000. Drive the Nurburgring. Put a V-8 in my Nissan Hardbody truck, finish my GMC truck.

Mine is fairly simple. Get the Montego done exactly the way I want it and then have the roads and highways to myself.. . . .Well, that last part really IS a fantasy.

I would love to run a dirt stock car, and run my mustand around Nurburgring, after some modifications of course…like…blower…upgraded suspension, tires, beefy clutch…roll bar and safety goodies….

Mine was to take the ’66 Fury I donated and build it into my interpretation of a Q-ship: strengthen the chassis, add a concealed (as much as is possible) rollcage, completely rebuild the 383 with severe duty components and stock compression & install an intercooled twin-turbo set-up with a full-length exhaust and sneaky electric exhaust cut-outs behind the front wheels and add a Currie-built Dana 60.

Keep the exhaust as quiet as possible with stock mufflers, paint the cut-outs flat black to conceal them, keep the stock body and paint, maybe even keeping some of the minor surface rust to throw off suspicion. Use V-rated black wall tires w/stock hub caps or wheel covers, again to throw off suspicion. Then beat-up on unsuspecting late-model muscle cars and rice-burners. Too much fun! The ultimate would be to show my tail lights to a turbo Supra. Nirvana attained!

silverstate challenge, drag week, baja 1000, and a gumball type rally without the partying/ celeb bling. Then theres that road that goes from Alaska to south America….
