When I was a teen ager and saw a car with way to many stick on accessories, or too much chrome door edge guard, we would often say that someone should turn that guy away from the chrome aisle at Pep Boys. I mean some folks just don’t know when to stop. Just because you have $5 in your pocket doesn’t mean you need to purchase another $5 accessory. Hood vents don’t go on every car, or every fender, especially on the same car. But where did these bolt on show only wheelie bars come from, and who thought they should be on this Camaro? I’ve seen some stuff in my day, and I don’t want to be negative because I think you should build your car the way you want to, but wow.
Am I wrong? And seriously, where the hell do these come from? I need some for the Civic!
I know these aren’t good, but I also know that lots of you out there have seen some weird and interesting accessory installations as well. So share them. We want to know what they are. What’s the worst, or best depending on your point of view, bolt or stick on accessory you’ve ever seen.
Non functional hood scoops! One of the most prevalent and stupid things to add to any vehicle.
Deer whistles…saw plenty of cars that hit deer with those stupid things slapped on the front bumper.
Second on my list would be the cheesy Lund hood scoops that used to be seen a lot more about 10 years ago.
I always felt like the birth of the big box style auto parts stores (Autozone, Pep Boys) seems to proliferate this stuff. One of my favorite says is “drove through the Pep-Boys with the crap magnet on”
Those air filters that look like a blower hat, especially when they are exposed through the hood. You are not fooling anyone, there is no blower in there. Most of the time they mounted crooked with some janky linkage that only half opens the “butterflies”.
Nothing for the bowtie exhaust tips? Where is JC Whitney when you need them!!
Well… Yenko decals on a late model, Stick-on parachute, Restrict your 3″ exhaust down to bow-tie tips. I’ll let the flag slide.
Dishonorable mention goes to stick on fake hood pins. They’re faking something that costs ten bucks and only needs a few minutes to install.
Wings mounted backwards on ricers get my vote (we’ve ALL seen them)
Oversized rear spoilers especially on 4 door sedan mommy cars.
Loud crappy sounding aftermarket exhaust on 4 cyl rice burners and any 6 cyl engine including and especially Dodge Cummins. I’ve even heard crappy sounding exhaust on V8 engines. A nice rumble on a street car sounds good, you’re just making obnoxious noise.
The button on the Mustang-E with a recording that sounds like a real engine.
But going way back, chrome exhaust tip bolted to be bottom of the bumper but not connected to the exhaust to give the appearance of duals.
The Playboy bunny decal on the window of a HS kid’s rusted out sled like we would really believe he was a member.
An Autozone was opened where I live in NE 2 yrs ago — I went to see what they had .
I could NOT buy a set of jumper cables for my kid – they did not carry them !!!
There were three rows of cheap ass low rent Chinese trash hardware that was
available …..I was amazed of the lack of quality and lack of inventory
Hands down……..Giant exhaust tips which seem to be on every diesel around. Might as well bolt a trash can on there and hang a sign on the back window that says” I AM A MORON! “
Undercarriage lights. Might tolerate it on a girls car if done right but under no circumstance should a grown man be seen with this mod.
In general, I hate most items which are not functional. But what I dislike most are exhaust tips larger in diameter than the rest of the exhaust system. Even the car manufacturers put this s**t on their products.
