Breaking News: Danny Popp Wins 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational in Corvette – Insanely Tight Battle With Mark Stielow

Noted racer Danny Popp has won the 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational after a down to the wire battle with Mark Stielow. In a virtual dead heat on points after all the events were tallied, race organizers were faced with having to go to their “tie-breaker” rule which was the fastest road course lap. In that category Danny Popp had the advantage, so he was awarded the trophy and his Corvette is crowned as the Optima Ultimate Street Car for 2011.

One of the true heroes in this whole story will be fellow Corvette competitor Peter Callaway who saved the day for Popp by giving him the master cylinder off of his car so Popp could compete in the braking portion of the event. Without that act of true sportsmanship and the ensuing thrash that was completed in an insanely tight window, Popp would have been eliminated.

Popp is known as a killer driver and he obviously put all of his skills to work today, beating the likes of Mary Pozzi, the aforementioned Mark Stielow, Kyle and Stacy Tucker, Bret Voelkel and others. His 2006 Z06 Corvette bested what will probably stand as the toughest field of Pro Touring cars in the world, up to this point.

We’ll have more details for you in the coming days, but Danny Popp in his bad ass 2006 Z06 has beaten the field to claim a hard fought win at the 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational!

they should have had a dance off then Stielow would have won. Danny Popp has 2 left feet and they are both on the accelerator

I think it is total BS that people with modern cars with ABS or retro mod cars with ABS are in the same class or given equal points as a non-abs car. Traction Control, ABS, electronic suspension = No Skill,

I have seen the man drive serveral times in person. He does not need the assistance of ABS or traction control. Traction control is not his style as he likes to slide around far more than traction control will let you. He can drive the wheels off non-ABS cars. He used to run a ’72 LT-1 and beat the heck out of other cars that had ABS.

Traction control mainly Corvette traction control allows better launch and the ABS allows shorter stops. That is great he is good, I am not just saying him. Stielow car has it also. Lets get rid of the technology see where it plays out

I can personally assure you that no Traction Control or Active Handling were used on the white car :>)…..definitely against my nature…..REALLY.
