Swedish garage rock band The Hellacopters formed up in 1994 and they jammed their awesome lo-fi style all the way through 2008 before they busted up and decided to do other stuff. Chances are you have never heard of these guys that that’s fine with us. They’ve got a bunch of great car songs in their collection of tunes and one of our favorites is 455 SD and ode of sorts to a 1971 Pontiac Trans Am with Super Duty power swapped in. We’re lovers of dirty, rotten, ragged lo-fi music around here and especially when it is about cars.
This song has some good lyrics like, “Got a Hurst T-stick in my hand – Borg Warner 4 speed says I can.”
That’s song writing we can get behind!

There wasn’t a 71 Super Duty Trans Am. The SD didn’t come out until ’73. Car guys like you should know that!
In the description brian says its a 71 with 455 sd power swapped in.
Nor is that a 71 Trans Am in the picture.
Brain fade to the max there Brave! Amended the item to give the boys some credit for creative license. I know the photo isn’t a ’71 but it was a cool Trans Am so I went with it.
nice. As a hardcore Pontiac guy, I’m surprised I’d never heard this song before!
This is a great car song, but it was originally written by Radio Birdman — an Australian band with a Detroit-born singer.
