The Cruiser Cutlass: This 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Is A Dream Backroad Trip Machine!

Some cars shouldn’t be turned into tempermental, psychotic street beasts. They should be left alone or barely upgraded and left to be the civil, comfortable cruiser that will just eat up the miles while looking thousands of times better than anything else on the road. That’s all I see when I look at this 1977 Olds Cutlass that I found on eBay. There’s a reason these things sold better than everything else around this time period…park it next to a Ford LTD II and an AMC Matador coupe to understand just how squared-off and handsome Oldsmobile’s Colonnade shape really is. The interiors of these cars are comfy without being gaudy like a Chrysler Cordoba, and then there are the Hurst Hatches. Yeah, we know they leak water like the Titanic’s hull post-iceberg, but when it’s a sunny day, there’s nothing better than popping them out and enjoying some wind in your hair.

This Cutlass has been taken down to the frame and brought all the way back, so you’ll be getting upgraded brakes with rear discs and an upgraded cooling system, an upgraded air conditioning system that runs on R134, and cruise control. And a 403 Olds engine under that expansive hood. This is a Route 66 car…get in, stay off the Interstates, and stay gone for a couple of weeks at a time visiting small towns nobody knows about anymore.

  1. Turbo Regal

My high school parking lot was full of Cutlasses like this one.

All this one needs is Billy Squier or Night Ranger blasting from the speakers to make this a true time machine!
