Rough Start: This Chevelle Trar Is Up There, Both In Stature And In Price, But Is It Worth The Risk?

It’s strange to find a nearly-complete trar that falls under the Rough Start budget, but the last time we stumbled upon a decent one it was fairly loved. But the last trar we showed was actually very close to rocking around…but this 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is a touch rougher, but a bit of polish could yield a flip-nosed beast that would be unique wherever it went.

chevelle trar 2The basic combination is predictable enough: the Chevelle is sitting on a 1975 Chevrolet Blazer frame. That means 350ci V8, but does not mean transmission or transfer case…they aren’t included in the sale. What you do get in return are the axles from a one-ton Dodge underneath and a custom flip-nose setup that retains the regularly opening hood.

chevelle trar 3Now, the bad news: The Chevelle is for sale for $5,000 as you see it, which maxes out the Rough Start budget and still leaves the vehicle without a trans or transfer case. If you want it cheaper, you can just take the body alone at $4,000, but that’s up to you. For a Rough Start, that just isn’t doable. So full budget and out a few hundred each for a trans and transfer case…is it worth it or would you walk?

If the front axle is from a one ton (Dana 60) and not a 3/4 the chassi is certainly worth a grand.
