What Dreams Are Made Of: This 1960 Ford Starliner Is Drop Dead Gorgeous!

What Dreams Are Made Of: This 1960 Ford Starliner Is Drop Dead Gorgeous!

The words I uttered when I saw this 1960 Ford Starliner can’t be printed here. Long, low, black and red, and gorgeous from just about every angle in the pictures provided, this qualifies as one of the very few times that a Ford product has left me a wide-eyed idiot, searching for the right adjectives that would do the car proper justice. The Starliner already has a place at BangShift just for existing: it’s a Galaxie with a fastback roof, meant to go play in stock car racing. Two years, few survivors and a story like that usually relegates the survivor cars to a restoration worth six or seven figures and a show-car lifestyle. Not this one…oh, no, not at all, and bless the builder for it.

The Starliner was an Arizona-sourced car when the frame-off build commenced. The engine, a 444ci Ford FE block, was hooked to a ZF six-speed manual which turns the gears in a Ford 9″ rear axle. Powertrain sorted, the body got attention, with a 2.75 inch chop to the top that leaves the Starliner looking stunning. Coated in black paint and trimmed out with red and chrome, the big Ford strikes a timeless look that leaves hot rodders, custom builders and street machine enthusiasts jaw-dropped. If there is a flaw in the body, I’ll throw down $100, because from the photos, it looks perfect. And if the outside has all of your attention, break away and look inside, especially at the custom engine turned dash. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

I don’t care that the car is up on Craigslist for $44,950 (or trade if you have an airplane!) You figure the cost in reproducing a build like this, and see how long it takes you to get to this point. How do you look classy, hip and menacing all at once? Right here, folks. The restoration people can shove it…according to the seller, the car was “built as a hot rod, no apologies”, and this hot rod was done right.

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Chevy Hatin’ Mad Geordie has exploded whilst looking at this awesome car.

    He will be missed….

  2. Douglas Miller

The chopped top was done very well. That said, I don’t mind this body style w/o a chopped top. A SOHC 427 would have made me cream my jeans. Good job all around on this build.
