Devilish: Someone Is Listing A Hellcat Challenger With A VIN Ending In “666” For $89,000

Nearly a year after the cars were confirmed, the Hellcat twins are still riding a tidal wave of hype and for good reason: that engine cures a LOT of ills. The Challenger Hellcat’s unofficial color combination seems to be SubLime Green with the blacked-out hood, just like this one that is currently for sale in Louisville. Other than knowing that this is a six-speed car, you should know the rest of the story by now: fully freaking loaded and packing enough power to alter your vision, depending on how hard you hit the long, skinny pedal on the right. Except that this particular Hellcat has two things that stand out: one is a price tag of $89,000, which is about thirty large more than the car should have originally sold for (ignoring probable dealership gouging), and it has a VIN number ending in triple-six, which is the reason why the current owner is selling the car at such a premium.

Seeing the car in purely as-delivered trim, with plastic still on the seats, the surgeon’s hair net steering wheel cover and paper floor mats, kills us. This tells us that a speculator bought the car and once they realized that they had a VIN number that corresponded nicely with the car’s nickname, they went full Barrett-Jackson and decided to try and cash in. YOU DIDN’T EVEN DRIVE THE DAMN CAR! Maybe to your house, but not enough that you could be bothered to pull the plastic off of the seats. If someone actually pays for this car, we sincerely hope that instead of playing speculator that they cut this demon loose and let it scream. We’d turn it into a street/strip car with lettering like the 1970s to go up against a ton of body-in-white Cobra Jets, COPOs and Drag Paks. What would you name it?

P T Barnum is not credited with that quote. It goes back to 1578 from Dr. John Bridges’ Defence of the Government of the Church of England:

“If they pay a penie or two pence more for the reddinesse of them..let them looke to that, a foole and his money is soone parted.”

Yea I meant to say “There a sucker born every minute” but didn’t say that either!

There’s a sucker born every minute.

Commonly attributed to Barnum, there is much testimony of contemporaries that he never actually said this, and in “P. T. Barnum Never Did Say “There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute” R. J. Brown asserts that it actually originated with a banker named David Hannum, in regard to one of Barnum’s hoaxes: a replica of the Cardiff Giant.
