Rough Start: A 1971 Buick GS350 Under Budget? Let’s Just Say It’s “Well Used”

Rough Start: A 1971 Buick GS350 Under Budget? Let’s Just Say It’s “Well Used”

It’s a bit of a challenge to pick a favorite GM A-body from 1968-1972. They all are so good! Chevelle, LeMans, Skylark, Cutlass, and all of the performance models based off of those cars…could you pick one? Some days, it boils down to my mood as to which one I’ll claim is my favorite. You can’t screw up picking one, so unless you’re hard-up for one of the divisional engine selections, all you have to do is point and say, “That one!” and you’ll be alright.

The Buick offerings weren’t completely sold as a musclecar…that was for Pontiac with the GTO, Chevy with the Super Sports and Oldsmobile’s hotter trim levels for the Cutlass and the 442. What Buick did was bring a semblance of maturity to the market. Don’t get us wrong, anything with the letters “GS” attached to it would be a hoot to drive, but you got the well-appointed interior, the mature color palette, and if the marketing guys were to be believed, the air that you weren’t just another hoodlum in a hot rod, but instead a well-to-do driver that liked a little bit of sport in their ride. Or, at least, the owner of this 1971 GS350 did until he got caught up:

I have a running project 1971 Buick GS 2 door hard top factory numbers match. Tachometer hood option(not working). Rear spoiler. The good: runs and drives. The bad: hit the wall in turn 4 at Talladega. Ha. A little rust no big holes. Body damage long story. The price is firm. No trades. All the info you want is in the VIN numbers. Thanks.

“Hit the wall in Turn 4 at Talladega”?!?! Well now, that’s a story that needs to be heard! If you’re wanting a car that can be driven immediately, no questions asked, this might not be the best Rough Start for you, but if you are project hunting and want a car with what sounds like one hell of a backstory, well, here you go! $4,500 takes the Buick home!

I couldn’t imagine a better daily driver than a car like this. It has coolness & heritage. Cheap basic parts easy, installs, lotsa upgrades available: a.c., better brakes, etc! I’d do mechanicals and drive the snot out of it!!! Cruise to Ocean City with the a.c. on?! Hellayeah!
