When Steve Dunning, aka elkyguy, sent us a tip on an International Truck that was for sale on Craigslist in Seattle we figured it was probably going to be something with a snow plow on it. We had no clue that it was going to turn out to be this big tired monster! This former box truck has been giving a new, and extremely cool, lease on life that we approve of. Normally we aren’t so hot on some of these Urban Big Rigs, but this one is cooler than most. Maybe it’s the lack of gizmos or creature comforts inside, and the fact that it’s a standard cab instead of the big leather adorned crew cabs you usually see. Whatever it is, we dig it.
With a 7.3 Liter Turbo Diesel, which is very similar to the T444E PowerStrokes, and a fresh Allison 5 Speed Automatic, the seller claims 17-18 mpg! That’s way better than the Suburban, and this bastard will haul some serious stuff. Of course it won’t haul the kids around anymore, but sometimes we have to make sacrifices. I’ll get over it. I promise.
The truck started life as a box truck and was cut down and shortened so that an 8′ Chevy Dually bed could be installed. It’s got a giant pintle hitch, receiver, etc, and looks like it could pull a forest down and drive over any mountain. The only criticism we have is that it is NOT 4 wheel drive. It sure looks like it with the lift, giant tires, and big bumpers from and rear, but it is not. That wouldn’t bother us a lot until it did, and when it did we would just throw a transfer case and front axle assembly under it and call it a day. Until then we’d enjoy the hell out of pulling whatever we wanted and scaring the hell out of folks in traffic. We want it.

has hydraulic brakes….and yes they will put you through the windshield..they are awesome…this is no different then driving your pickup, just bigger, you don’t have to chase it down the road, and will haul and stop anything you put behind it…
has a 2000 style chevy bed, in perfect shape
has a pintle hitch and receiver hitch set up…
almost brand new michelin RADIAL military tires….they will last forever…and they go anywhere and drive great

Tall rubber is like an overdri gear. International trucks are light,this is possible to get this type of mpg. I wouldn’t call it bs.
The guy say it ain’t been cut up, then says it’s been shortened. I’d like to see how he did that without cutting.
I think a 90’s Ford dually bed would have looked better.
