This Amazing 1973 Pontiac Trans Am SD455 Is Original To The Core And For Sale….Got $200K?

My favorite car in the world, or at least an example of one has come up for sale on Hemmings and it isn’t going to leave for cheap…nor should it. I love the 1973 and 1974 (more the 1973s) Super Duty Trans Ams because they represented one last parting shot toward the forces ultimately shutting the muscle car boom down. The engines were underrated all to hell, they had all sorts of beefy components, were the fastest production cars of their years by scads and sold in short numbers because (a) you had to pretty much wander through the books to get the car ordered and (b) they were big money as compared to everything else. Look, these things were manufactured with stickers on the valve covers that gave you the specs necessary to assemble the bottom end correctly. Pontiac knew that these cars were going to guys wanting to go fast and that they would be used as tools for such.

Everything about this car is awesome. It has the original block that was in it when it went down the line, it has never had a “frame off” restoration. Paint? You bet but since it has been a western car it was never necessary to blow the whole thing apart and start from scratch. It has a rare interior, it is one of just 42 four speed cars sold in 1973 with the Super Duty package, has factory correct exhaust that was replaced in 1976, those bitchin’ factory wheels, the perfect factory stance, and on and on and on. The asking price is $205,000 for obvious reasons. This is one of the nicest 1973 Super Duties in the world.

While I am not a paint daub and factory grease marks kind of guy, this car is one I would pay all day for if I were a rich guy. I know you are screaming, “For a tenth of the price I could build you a car 10x faster!” You’d be right on that point but it would not be an original 1973 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 and that’s worth something all on its own to me anyway. We all have one car that we’d go over the cliff for. This is mine.

Wow, super nice car. Brewster Green is one of my favorite colors on these Trans Ams. Would prefer a black interior, but not bad. Someone will grab this thing up for sure

McQ (John Wayne would be proud) filmed in Seattle. That car was not a SD, one of the car used in filming survives in Washington. Cool car, lots of coin!

brewster green T/A is on my shopping list for when I win the lotto. But, for this price, I would buy a stripped one and have one built.

Agreed. At this price it’s expensive to cut up and make better. Turbos and an overdrive transmission would help a lot.

Nice car . . . but it isn’t worth $200K. These cars sell between $100K and $130K depending on options. And those are for fully restored cars which almost always bring more money than a “survivor.”

252 SD455 Trans-Ams were built in 1973, 180 were autos, 72 were 4sp manuals. All original cars are rare and worth every penny .
