eBay Find: An Awesome And Awesomely Rare 1958 Dodge W100 Factory 4×4 Dually!

eBay Find: An Awesome And Awesomely Rare 1958 Dodge W100 Factory 4×4 Dually!

My love of big old trucks is a longstanding conversation point among the members of BangShift nation, especially in our forum section. In fact, those intrepid men and woman long ago started a discussion thread called the “Brian, look what I found for you!” where people post random awesome stuff they find on eBay, Craigslist, and other places around the web. Typically this stuff ranges from the weird to the sublime but BS’er Monk hit an epic grand-slam homerun with this tough old find the other day.

Ancient dually pickup trucks are rare birds as most dually trucks of this era were sold as cab and chassis models that then had flatbeds, rack bodies, or other such coolness mounted on the rear frame rails. Adding to this gumbo is sheer greatness is the fact that it is a factory 4×4 as well, not to mention that it is a Dodge. I can’t find any production numbers but this thing has to be rare beyond rare. With factory paint, the original Poly motor providing the power, a shifter handle that’s about five feet long, and looks that would intimidate any truck built in the last 20 years, this is the old truck mother load.

The seller says that the truck has always lived in a garage environment, has great original paint, and that it runs and drives well. Apparently the driver’s window has fallen off the track and only the temp gauge is working properly. Those seems to be two problems that could be corrected in an afternoon’s time. The gearing is probably bulldozer short, the 315ci Poly engine doesn’t make a lot of power, and the ride is most likely similar to my C50, the gas mileage has to be completely horrendous, but look at how cool this beast is. It looks like you could take down a row of brick buildings without scratching the paint. The bright red running boards and interior accents are greatness, too and certainly fit the whole late 1950s motif.

There are two days left in this auction and while I certainly don’t have the scratch to jump into the deep end and buy this truck, I know a guy locally who does. I’ve already alerted him to this situation and I’ll keep you all posted as to the result. The truck is in CT, so if he buys it, I want to at least go for a ride behind that massive hood!

I’m guessing not so factory. The factory axles should have 8 lug outers not bud 6 lug. I’m thinking the front which is a D44 (correct) is an international piece or has had the outers swapped from one for the budd hubs. Just a feeling, the factory rear should be an 8 lug D60 as well, not sure whats in this rig now.

im guessing Threedoor dont know much about old dodge’s six lugs would of been the right bolt patteren for the 1958 and it looks like a pretty clean stock truck from the pics

im anonymous on this one, ive never seen a truck that was pre 68 with more than 6 lugs esspecially on anything heavier than a 1 ton. this set up seems correct for the time period. this is deffiantly be something i’d be interested in.

The front-clip styling is a bit “off” to me, but hey…..it’ll still pull the garage off it’s foundations, in first-gear at an idle. Looks like a cool buy to the right person….do believe I’d be getting rid of the rock-flinger tires on the back.
