Our man Craig Fitzgerald over at BestRide.com found this super-cool diorama, depicting Jim Rockford’s sweet mobile home, parked at Cove Road in Malibu. Not only does it include the trailer, it’s also got Jimmy’s Firebird Esprit, along with Rocky’s GMC pickup.
The greatest thing about The Rockford Files was that unlike Magnum, P.I., Jim Rockford was never portrayed as anything but a loser, barely able to pay the rent on his trailer home. There’s even a whole set of YouTube clips devoted to the angry messages he got on his answering machine.
So the trailer is an integral part of Rockford’s personality. As Craig found out, the trailer is a 1959 Nashua, which — for its day — looked pretty swank. However, it was 25 years old by the time Rockford was living in it, and it was set up in a parking lot.
This diorama is HO scale, and features a couple of moveable characters, plus the Firebird and the GMC pickup. It’d be perfect if you had an HO train set that stopped at Rockford’s trailer, Matt Houston’s mansion, Hardcastle and McCormick’s basketball court and maybe the garage from Chico and the Man.
Get on it now, because it’s only got a couple of hours to run on eBay. BestRide has a whole gallery of photos, plus a vintage ad from the 1959 Nashua when it was new.
My cellphone incoming-call ringer is taken from the intro….damn, this whole getting old bit is starting to suck, lol
Thats great! I really liked that show and for a brokester he had a new firebird every year!
