Some Deals From The 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction – At Least A Few Cars Weren’t Priced Through The Stratosphere!

Some Deals From The 2015 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction – At Least A Few Cars Weren’t Priced Through The Stratosphere!

Barrett-Jackson equals stupid money. We’ve known this combination for years, yet somehow we still pay attention to the train wreck of “more money than brains” in the desert as cars we’d sell precious body parts and our first-born for cross the auction block. Can we afford a nine-million-dollar Ferrari? Not between the three of us combined. But was there cool iron at the show that we could easily bring the scratch for? Yes, and here’s a few samples from the block for your review:

1. 1971 Chrysler Town and Country, 440ci, $6,270

t&c

Yes, we’ve been fixated on wagons for a bit now, but this is one that really has my attention. This 1971 Chrysler, painted a yellow that I’m nearly convinced is Top Banana (it’s original color!) is packing a 440 and an options list that reads like a Christmas list. The wood paneling has some funky touches and could be replaced…or removed, either way I’m happy…but for under $7,000 you got a big-block Chrysler wagon that can haul nine people, a ton of stuff, a trailer, and ass. Score!

2. 1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 “Arizona Rattler”, $16,500

In this case, you have to take the sum of it’s parts to justify the price of this 1983 Camaro, and this one has the parts in spades. This third-gen was built by Pete Brown, the owner of KC-HiLites, and was featured in Car Craft in 1984. What you really care about lies under hood: a 498ci big-block hooked to a TH400, with a Dana 44 out back to take the abuse. The 18″ IROC wheels, a recent update, look killer. You couldn’t duplicate this build for any less.

3. 1996 Ford Mustang “Shinoda Boss” Prototype Mule, $10,450

The big strobe stripe on the SN95 Mustang told the world one thing: Larry Shinoda was putting some work in on making the new-for-1994 Mustang something entertaining. No, this isn’t John Coletti’s 598ci Hemi Boss-powered Mustang, but instead this was a skunkworks project that would’ve given the SN95 upgraded suspension, a cold-air intake system, and 3.55 gears out back. Signed by Shinoda, this was his last project before his passing in 1997.

4. 1972 Pontiac Firebird Custom, $28,050

Seeing an SD455 Trans Am go for big bucks isn’t out of the ordinary, but for some reason early 2nd gen Pontiac Firebirds were really hot for this auction. This ’72 is the bargain find. It isn’t a real Trans Am, wasn’t originally Lucerne Blue, and lots of the details are added on. Do you really care? Hell no…it’s a 400ci powered Pontiac that looks dead-on gorgeous.

5. 1971 Chevrolet Kingswood by Gas Monkey Garage, $36,300

So you couldn’t resist the urge to go after one of the many Fast N’ Loud cars that appeared at the show? You could’ve done worse than to pick up the 1971 Kingswood wagon. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but a 454 with a blower, side pipes, and pie-crust tires on Cragar mags has to work for somebody!

The bargain of the year was the Gas Monkey C-10. Bitchin truck with all the high end stuff for 41,500! If the numbers on the show are to be believed, (and I know Richard’s is) that’s a scalding deal. Probably 50k in parts alone on that thing.

Richard’s friend Dennis Collins bought that truck at the Cattle Barrens Ball in Dallas for $90K and thought he stole it! He sold it at B-J for less than half of what he paid. Add in seller’s fee and transportation and he lost HUGE! He should leave the car flipping to Richard and stick to pimping out Jeeps.

Agreed, Why sell the “Holly Grail” of Mustangs for $200K cash to a local buyer when you can spend $30K to buy your half, Buy out your partner for $70K and then sell it at auction 700 miles away from home for $123K! I don’t think he even broke even on that one once you add in the transportation and seller’s fees.

That truck isn’t that great when you see it close up. Very poor panel alignment, the vent windows weren’t removed when painted and there’s overspray on the very pitted window trim. Thick leather upholstery over the stock door panels meant the door panels sat “high” and you could see the rivets holding the window felts (which were silver and stuck out like a sore thumb). Nice truck, but not 100k nice. It sold for bang on what it’s worth.

On Sunday, the ’69 SuperBee with 6k on a fresh restore for 30 grand was the buy of a lifetime
