Our 15 Favorite Door Slammers From the 2012 March Meet

Our 15 Favorite Door Slammers From the 2012 March Meet

The two things that put the March Meet in a different class than other nostalgia drag races are the history that surrounds the event and the cars. Simply put, there are hot rods you’ll see at The Patch that you just are not going to see anywhere else. While we drool over virtually every car that rolls past our camera stand at the strip, there are always those chosen few that stand out.

Scroll down to see 15 different door slammers that stopped us in our tracks over the course of the 2012 March Meet. This isn’t an absolute list of the coolest cars at the race, just a smattering of kick ass cars that are 100% BangShift approved!

OUR 2013 MARCH MEET LIVE BROADCAST WILL BEGIN NEXT THURSDAY MORNING!

I love them all but my favourite has to be that ’39?? gold Chevy x-tra doors. Locally, a racer named Don Holland ran a four door Canadian Pontiac of that vintage complete with a 427 Chevyback in the late 60s – early 70s. It was called Squirrley Rat and put down high 10s all day long.
Don is in his 70s now and still likes to build cars but favours Austin Healey 3000s and the like. His son, Marty is a lifetime Chevy guy and has a couple of eraly Camaros plus a really neat ’34 Chevy Tudor hot rod that is as nice as any in the car mags.

Thanks for including my 71 Gasser Vega Wagon; I wish I could have made a better showing with her. Oh well we have the CHHR to regain some pride.
A very angry DOUGAN 355 will be replacing the semi built DZ302 and a set of 5.56 gears is in the near future along with a rebuild of the temper mental M22 4 spd.
    Again thank you. Tom

Man that Ol’ Gold car has been running around forever. I remember seeing it at the Vintiques meet in Yakima, WA every year back in the late 80s and early 90s

Thank You for including our Hot Rod in your Top 15 List. My build partner for this car, John Bruton, passed away last year. One of his favorite things at the race track was to have other people enjoy the car that was so dear to his heart. Thanks again, PapaDave Walker

P.S. We love “open-wheel-coupe’s ” and the Lucky 7-11 (pick #10) is one of our favorites.

BangShift crew Thank You for including my Ford Thunderbolt in your Top 15 Door Slammers from the 2012 March Meet. The March Meet brings out the best of the best.
The field was very tight and tough to qualify which made for some great racing.
I am a member of the Juggers Racing Team and the boys at Famoso take good car of us.
My birthday falls on the weekend of the March Meet and that is how I celebrate.

Howabout a story on the “Old Gold Chevy”? I’ve seen pics of this cool car since I was a kid….(I’m still kid, just almost 50 now). Info like: how long has it been a race car? what kinda power train does it run? Why a 4 door? etc.?
