(Photos by Dave Nutting and the author) – This is the first of a few galleries we’ll have this week from the Vermonster 4×4 Snow Bog which went down last weekend in Bradford, Vermont. This was the first ever winter event for Vermonster 4X4 which holds several events each summer that include tuff truck racing, mega trucks, monster truck car crushing, mud drags, and a tank trap known simply as “the trench” that even the most monster of rigs get snarled in. Dave Nutting and I left early on Saturday morning and hauled about three hours up into Vermont to check this event out and we were not let down. About 2,000 spectators showed up and we’d guess on the order of 30-40 trucks of various sizes were on hand to compete. Dave and I spent most of our time shooting the rock crawling course, tug of war competition, mega truck freestyle, and tuff trucks. Access to the snow drags was limited. We had a blast and are planning a return to one of the summer events which draws more trucks and even larger crowds. A good time was had by all and we think it is a great bargain for a day’s fun. Admission was just $10 – bucks a head. The summer shows are $20 or $25 a person.
One of the things we love about this scene is that the vast majority of the rigs are completely home built and really reflect the owners. Hell, there was a dude using kitchen baking pans as hood scoops. The rigs are built to smash and bash over rocks, slog through mud, and get abuse heaped on, so pretty looks are not part of the program. Exo-skeletons were present on a bunch of the more serious crawling rigs, and tractor tires were the order of the day in the “mega-truck” class. It has been a long time since we have seen so many rigs equipped with Rockwell toploader 2.5-ton axles in the same place!
This first gallery is a collection of photos featuring the huge mega-truck class, the ball out and the high flying tuff-trucks. We’ll highlight the tug of war and other events tomorrow. You’ll see some gnarly action photos in this gallery as Nutting and I were glued to our cameras as these crazy behemoths went to town during some heavy snow!

Hey guys, great pics of the event. I’ve been going to this event since it’s inception. I love that they thought of us and got us out of cabin fever mood for a day. The competitors were not afraid to throw the snow around. The summer events are way bigger, as well as having the Monster Trucks, they have a Show – N – Shine too. Look forward to seeing you there this spring!!
