The blue oval boys clearly have their mojo workin’ these days. They’ve managed to get their business in order, they’re building stuff that people are interested in buying and testing results from all corners of the lineup have been positive. The most recent piece of news came from the LA Sheriff’s Office which recently tested police car offerings from the Big Three head to head.
Ford’s EcoBoost V6 powered Taurus Police Interceptor managed to outrun V8 offerings from both Chevy and Chrysler. The Chrysler was a Hemi Charger and the Chevy was the new Caprice PPV. The cars were tested in several ways, including 0-60 testing, where the Ford took all comers with a 5.8-second blast and around a road course, where again, the Ford was quickest. We believe that this testing was done at the EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Center), located in Pomona, California.
Interestingly, in Ford’s press release touting their stellar results, they mention that the Police Interceptor model will have “at least” 365hp. It seems that they don’t want to commit to an exact number until all the final facts and figures are released about the Caprice PPV from Chevy.
With all three companies fully back into the police car fray, it’ll be interesting to see how this battle evolves over the next few years. You have to believe that each company will be wicking their cars up each year to keep pace with the others. This is a strong opening shot from Ford, but we’re sure the General will have something to counter with shortly.
