Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: Viper Plant Reopens, USA Today Writer is a Killjoy

This week’s Friday Excuse to go Home Early and Drink touches on both happiness and anger.

The good news is that the Dodge Viper plant is back up and running in Detroit, cranking out Vipers.

OK, since they have only sold 298 of them this year, “cranking them out” is a little generous. How about slowly and lovingly assembling them? Either way, it means that Chrysler plants are coming back on line and it also means that for the immediate future there will still be a Viper. Long term we bet that Fiat will sell the brand off like “old Chrysler” was trying to do.

Now for the anger. We first read the news on the USA Today‘s automotive blog, The Open Road.

The entire blog item tells us why we should not be at all happy about the factory reopening, why the Viper does not fit the “image” of “New Chrysler” and that it is “Hemi powered.”

The writer seems to begrudgingly admit that it is good the 300 people that work at the plant have been put back on the line, but aside from that it seems like the Viper is the automotive Anti-Christ.

If you get angry when you drink, especially when you read something misguided, uninformed, and nauseating, don’t read this drivel. Otherwise, rock back three Alabama Slammers and click here.
