From the Archive: The Best License Plate Ever

From the Archive: The Best License Plate Ever

Earlier this week, I posted a photo that my wife took in the bathroom at Thompson Drag Raceway, in Thompson, Ohio back in 2002. I had forgotten that she took another photo a couple years before that weekend that was even better. It captured what I believe to be the greatest single license plate of all time. It doesn’t get more fitting than this.

This photo was taken in March or April of 1999, if my memory is correct. It was shot up in New Hampshire when we were driving to get some dinner on the first night of an SCCA race weekend. We were running the Rabbit that weekend and for one reason or another, the girlfriends of several members decided to come up for the race. The catch was that we were camping on the infield of New Hampshire International Speedway, in the month of March/April. It may as well have been Antarctica. The girls were hating our guts by the end of the weekend.

Putting all of that aside, we were driving through Concord, New Hampshire in my 1982 Chevy truck that was factory equipped with a small-block and the semi-strange factory New Process four-speed OD manual transmission. I had my camera lying on the bench seat and saw the license plate of the car ahead of us. My wife sprung into action and clicked the photo you’ll see below. It still cracks me up every time I see it.
