Best Of 2014: Man Fells Massive Tree Trunk Into Old Ford – Wrecks Old Ford And Causes Bonus Collision

I used to work for a guy who drilled the “5 P’s” into me. Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. I always though that was a rock solid mantra until I watched this video and saw a guy who clearly planned out his course of action but, well, the scope of things kind of got away from him. Look, the idea to fell this massive tree trunk into the bed of his old Ford was pretty good (how was he going to get it our again?) but he obviously didn’t consider the weight of the wood that was to be crashing down into the poor old bump side. The dude does have skills with a chainsaw though, we have to give him that. The massive trunk lands dead-on-center in the bed of the truck. It kills the truck on impact but that’s just the beginning of the fun.

The old Ford must have a manual transmission because the weight and the rocking after the tree trunk lands in the back send it rolling down a gentle grade at the cut site. We learn that the chainsaw operator’s name is Richard during this portion of the program because his wife is screaming it at him as he tries to get into the truck in order to stop it without crashing into the back of an oddly parked car. The brief clip at the end of the video seems to indicate that “Richard” isn’t successful in his attempt to get the overloaded truck stopped.

We think that this whole episode qualifies under the “What the hell were you thinking?” banner. Ever done anything this dumb?

Whomever drilled the 5 P’s into you was a brick shy of a full load. It is not the 5 P’s it is the 7 P’s, and everyone in industry, biz, mil knows them as “Prior Positive Planning Prevents Piss Poor Progress” It’s right up there with the next thing I was taught as a young heavy industrial maintenance tech: When my boss explained what “assume” means: ” You stand a good chance of making an “Ass” out of “U” and “Me” when you ASS-U-ME

well I’m a millwright . no fancy titles here . and I’ve found that murphys law trumps everything . Stupidest thing ever ? lifting a chipping wheel out thru the roof of a building . I am in charge of signaling the hydraulic crane operator and hes not paying attention, the load comes thru the roof and as the operator swings the load out over the parking lot he lowers it by the wire . I can see because theyve put the jib on the boom for more reach He’s going to run out of cable before the load hits the ground . I’m on the radio telling him to boom in and He’s ignoring me load hits the end of the wire and the crane stands on its nose but doesnt go over guy shits his shorts and gets fired . This was after a tool box meeting and everything so the other thing is you cant fix stupid.
