BangShift Daily Tune Up: Goldfinger Performs “Here In Your Bedroom” Quarantine Edition

BangShift Daily Tune Up: Goldfinger Performs “Here In Your Bedroom” Quarantine Edition

This song is awesome. This performance of the song is even better. Admittedly I have been a fan of Goldfinger since high school. These guys were regularly firing out of the crummy 6×9 speakers I had swapped into my car and later my pickup truck when I was headed to school or out screwing around with friends on a Friday night. The Ska-punk of the late 1990s and early 2000s hit me square in the face in the best of ways. See, I’m a band kid. From 4th grade into college I was a trombone player (and a pretty good one). When the radio had songs on it that included brass instruments, songs that were not from the big band era, things were fun.

There’s been a lot of creative people doing a lot of creative stuff during this period of weird separation from the things and humans that we love the most in some cases. Music is the most subjective thing in the world, right? One man’s Mozart is another man’s garbage but stuff like this is awesome. The ability we have in the modern world to get creative and overcome some physical barriers with technology. Using that technology to make rock and roll, art, whatever you want to call it is cool.

You may not be a ska-punk fan but it’s totally freaking great that this guys kicked out this jam and did it in such fine fashion. With this song on the radio, I’m in my Monte Carlo burning the tires off or maybe I am listening to WBCN sitting in Boston traffic in a desperate effort to make it to New England Dragway when the gates opened for street night on Friday.

Heck, maybe I am on my way home from the strip at 1 A.M. with the windows down after calling a Saturday night show. My head still bobs the same way.
