How Detroit’s Problems Translate into Racing Woes

David Hagan is the father of NHRA Nitro Funny Car racer Matt Hagan (shown). The elder Hagan owns one of the largest automotive dealerships in the state of Virginia and recently has been dealing with the issues that all car dealers have been facing.

In a story here at Competition Plus, Hagan throws out some real numbers to give an idea about the scale at which some of these dealers operate. It’s pretty astounding, especially when he talks about how far business has fallen off.

Matt’s sponsor ditched his Fuel team really before the season even got going, so his dad stepped in with some money, and Don Schumacher, the car owner, has also been helping to keep the car at the races. Hagan is doing very well in his freshman NHRA season (he ran the car in IHRA action for a season or two previously).
