Is the First Hemi ‘Cuda Worth 3.2 Million Bucks?

Is the First Hemi ‘Cuda Worth 3.2 Million Bucks?

Our pal Phil Cooper shot us a note a few days ago asking if the dude trying to sell the very first E-body Hemi ‘Cuda was high on drugs or on the mark looking for a mile high pile of dough for the car. The asking price is currently $3.2-million on AutoTrader Classics. This is obviously a neat car, as all the small number of factory Hemi ‘Cudas are. But due to the fact that it is a “Pilot” car, one of three, and the only with a Hemi, it is practically a unicorn.

The whole multi-million dollar car thing hit its excessive peak during the “funny money” economy several years ago. Who can forget the famous/infamous “guy in the Ferrari hat” jumping in the front seat of the 1954 Olds prototype during the Barrett Jackson auction while bidding the car up to three million bucks?

Maybe that ’54 Olds prototype is a three million dollar car. Maybe the big GM Futurliner was worth four million dollars, but is a 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda worth that type of money? For us, it doesn’t hit those same type of “wow” nerve centers that the other vehicles hit. Those are iconic machines, unique pieces of automotive history and although only 380 Hemi ‘Cudas hit the streets in 1970, that’s high volume production as compared to other cars in this price range.

What do you think? Is this really a three million dollar Mopar?

It might have brought that in 2006, not now.

Maybe he also has a Delorean time machine to go back then, too.

Not to me it isn’t. If I had a 3 million to spend on a car; I’d buy, or build ten others, including taking a 318 Cuda and tossing in a Hemi to have fun in it. Cause driving that Cuda 1000 miles will kill it’s value. No thanks.

IF I WAS A BILLIONAIRE, THERE ISN’T A CAR IN THE WORLD THAT I WOULD PAY 3 MILLION BUCKS FOR. JUST REDICULOUS.

If I could afford it Id buy it. The most expensive car last time I heard was a 1971 Hemi Cuda convertible, something around 4million? So the very first Hemi, Id say so. But then you get into Brand racers, if its not GM and your a GM guy its not worth it to you, but if it was a Yenko it would be. Same with you Ford guys and Shelby.

Notice it says the transmission is original, numbers matching…but it doesn’t say anything about the engine? And why is half the ad a history lesson of the AAR Cuda? And no, not worth 3.2 mil.
