When we conjure thoughts of Winnipeg, Canada, which we admit is not often, drag racing is not normally on the list. Located above North Dakota, Winnipeg’s winters are harsh. It is actually listed as the coldest city in the world with a population of more than 600,000 people. Like other spots, though, the cold only serves as a respite for hot rodders and racers to fix and improve their junk. Such was the case for a drag racing plant known as Keystone/Bison Dragways. We were tipped to a website with an incredible collection of photos documenting the now defunct track’s history.
It appears to have been a Spartan track, and according to some history we read, during its entire time in operation, it never had guardrails! What we can tell by the photos, though, the track hosted all sorts of great events featuring all the stars of the 1960s and early 1970s. Ironically, it was a Canadian oil pipeline that went through the property caused the track to be closed in 1977.
Take some time and pile through these photos. Dragsters, street cars, hot rods, muscle cars, altereds, floppers, altered wheel-base monsters, they are all here and in spades.
