MSD Rolls Out New Advanced Power System Starters

MSD Rolls Out New Advanced Power System Starters

The guys at MSD have had their thinking caps on again. Their popular line of APS starters just got better with the addition of more cranking power, and the addition of new bearings to further beef up the internals in the already stout piece. These starters can handle engines with up to 18:1 compression. That’s some squeeeze!

They are continuing to expand the line, but currently, APS starters are available for Chevy big and small blocks, LS-Series engines, Ford small blocks, and compact replacement starters are on sale for Chrysler small and big blocks.

Here’s the full release from MSD:

You may have all the spark energy you need, but if your starter won’t spin the engine, you’re not go-ing anywhere. MSD’s Advanced Power System Starters will crank your engine over to get it fired up!

The APS Starters now feature a 3.4 horsepower motor powering a 4.4:1 reduction gear set to deliver great torque – enough for 18:1 compression racing engines! Inside the compact housing we’ve put two ball bearings to guide the balanced armature through countless smooth engagements and starts. Another handy feature is that the billet mount¬ing block can be rotated in different positions to help clear oil pans and suspension parts. Also, the Starter is powder coated MSD red and will stay looking good, even though it’s underneath your car.

• Gear reduction of 4.4:1 improves torque for great cranking.

• 3.4 horsepower motor provides power for high compression engines.

• Ball bearing supported armature and pinion gear.

• Downsized design helps clearance issues with oil pans and exhaust.

• Mount can be clocked to assist in mounting issues.

Currently, MSD offers starters for Chevy V8s 153 & 168 tooth, PN 5095; LS-Series, PN 5096; and Ford Small Blocks, PN 5090. MSD also offers a compact replacement starter for Chrysler engines from Small Blocks to 440s, PN 5098. Additional starter designs are expected in the future.

El Paso, Texas based MSD Ignition is the most recognized name in performance rotating electronic systems and is used in everything from NASCAR, NHRA and ADRL drag racing, SCORE off-road racing, World of Outlaw sprint cars and a host of other motorsports.
