When we first heard about the new Jeep Performer head from Edelbrock that the company was showing off there we immediately got excited for every Jeep enthusiast in the USA. Why? Well for a few reasons. The first is that this head is going to be awesome for making more power, it is going to be great for stroker builds, and it will be snatched up like cup cakes by fat kids when the company starts shipping them in 2015. The other reason we dig it is from what we have heard, this is going to be really reasonably priced and because it is Edelbrock making it , we know the quality will be there. This is a company that has control over every step of the manufacturing process and that is exactly what you want and need for a head. It is always great to wander around and look at the new stuff Edelbrock is bringing to market but when we saw this long tall Sally on the display stand we were immediately rubbing all over it and making the Edelbrock reps nervous. They did not call security on us, thankfully.
This head is designed to bolt onto 1991-2006 4.0L inline engines but it will also fit 1976-1990 4.2L engines without having to modify the water jackets so long as you use the 1991-2006 intake manifold and exhaust manifold/header. Even cooler? Edelbrock is seeking 50-state approval on this head in applications where EFI is used. AMC and Jeep people, we can see you smiling from here. 55CC combustion chambers, 144cc runners on the intake side and 77cc runners on the exhaust side, 1.91″ intake valves, 1.50″ exhaust valves, and the ability to handle a .540″ lift cam right out of the box? Hello! Just think of the weight savings alone.
We know that there have been some small volume manufacturers for these style of heads before but we also know that this one will come to market at about HALF the price of those. Between the weight savings, the power potential, the additional torque potential, and how much fun a stroker would be under this head, the inline six AMC/Jeep world will be loving this new piece from Edelbrock.
Oh, and we’ve already started bugging them for one to dyno test it on a Jeep rig that we’re really familiar with here at BS eastern world HQ. Stay tuned…..but until then read the full release below and check out the photos –
Edelbrock Performer Cylinder Head for 4.0L Jeeps
TORRANCE, CA – Edelbrock is excited to announce the release of its new cylinder head for 1991-2006 Jeeps with a 4.0L inline six cylinder engine.
This new Performer cylinder head is designed as a bolt-on performance upgrade for 1991-2006 Jeep’s with a 4.0L inline six cylinder engine. It features better flowing intake and exhaust ports along with a modern combustion chamber design with back cut and swirl polished valves for improved flow performance. It retains the stock valve angle, pushrod length and valve cover bolt pattern for use with factory components and off the shelf accessories. It also features larger reinforced rocker bosses for improved strength at high RPM and Heli-Coil® threaded inserts in the intake manifold bolt holes for added strength. A 3/4″ deck throughout the head also provides improved durability and is machined to accept both distributor or coil pack ignition.
The Performer Jeep 4.0L is designed with 1991-98 port locations and must be used with the appropriate intake manifold and header combination for optimal performance. 1999-2006 applications will deliver the best performance gains when used with aftermarket exhaust headers. The Performer Jeep cylinder head can also be used on 1976-90 AMC 4.2L engines with no modification to the water jacket when used with 1991-2006 intake manifold and exhaust header.
This cylinder head is pending 50-state emission legal for 4.0L engines when used with factory Fuel Injection components. It’s also pending 50-state emission legal for AMC 4.2L engines when used with a Mopar Fuel Injection Conversion Kit (E.O. Number D-265-21).

Hmmm I bet the stroker in my Cherokee would love this!
Any computer problems making that stroker change over? I drive a tj & am thinking about it. But I’m not ecu knowledgeful. Just bigger injectors & no codes?
Close but i want a 200ci Ford head that does’t cost the price of a pair V8 race heads.
Had an 87 Commanche 2 wheel drive with the 4.0. Tied an 87 z28 one night, probably caught him sleeping a little. Laughed when he asked what you got in that thing? It had a 5 speed, pos, made by Pugeot.
i went to the website for more info, put in the part numbers, and it was for head bolts for the 4.0 jeep no heads. What’s this head going to cost? When is it going to be available?
Rebuilding my 4.0 Jeep to a 4.7 Stroker within the next 6 months. I want to purchase your new cylinder head for the rebuild. When is it available and whats the cost?
