Daily Driver Muscle Car: Performing A Compression And Leak Down Test On This 1976 El Camino’s Engine To See If It Is Daily Driver Worthy

Daily driving an old car is a great thing. The newest car I have is 31 years old, and is my daily driver. It’s got 438,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. But not all old cars do. So even if you want to drive an old car, for whatever reason, it still needs to be daily driver reliable. Scott Liggett, aka Rebeldryver’s Garage, is looking to make this cool El Camino his daily, and while he doesn’t drive far for work each day, he does like in Nebraska so this thing needs to be able to start and run and drive regardless of whether it is in the 50s outside, the 90s outside, or the teens.

Check out the video below and let us know if you’d drive this bad boy daily.

Video Description:

Our once ABANDONED project 76 Chevy El Camino’s 350 is running great. We want to make some power upgrades to it, but doing that to an old, worn out engine is a waste of time and money. And, it will not produce the results we want.

So, we perform a compression and leak down test on the engine to see if it is in good condition. Just because the 350 runs good, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t mean it isn’t really worn out and in desperate need of a rebuild. Installing a bigger cam or performance cylinder heads on an engine like that will not give us the results we want. It would be a waste of time and money too. We will show you how easy it is to do these tests and it only took a couple hours to find out the health of our 350.
