Project Car Update: The Dual-Quad 409 Powered 1955 Chevy Build

This is the introduction of a very cool 1955 Chevy project that BangShift.com member Monk is wrenching on. The car will be packing one of the nastiest 409 mills we’ve seen. It’s got all the modern good stuff like aluminum heads, a custom made oil pan, and a pair of dual quads on top.

This project is a dream build for Monk who owned a 1955 Chevy back as a youth in the late 1960’s. From then until now he has had the crazy notion that a W-motor belongs in a place it never actually came in. After selling one of the coolest big block Novas we’ve seen, he used the proceeds to score a rust free 1955 Chevy post car and kicked off the build of the stroker 409. The motor will come out to roughly 480ci when all is said and done. Rather than go with the customary slushbox, a TKO 600 will be bolted to the back of the motor. Like we said, this thing rules hard.

Currently the motor is at the engine shop, the interior of the car is coming together, and Monk is adding gauges and small details to the car before the mill is finished.

Since this is the first installment, we have an assignment for you out there in reader-land. You need to get caught up on this project by clicking the link below and following the build up to this point. We’ll be updating this build at each turn so you can see it go from it’s current state to the tire frying pile of awesome that it is going to be in the end.

UPDATE – 3/31/2011 — It has been far too long between updates on BangShift member Monk’s 1955 Chevy. He cruised the car all last year, making some small changes along the way. He recorded stellar gas mileage, right on the 9mpg mark for the driving season! The car is now in the finishing stages of a bad ass black paint job and looks really great, even when half taped up and masked off. Even though the car is being bathed in unforgiving black paint, Monk has no plans to reduce the cruising miles this season. The 600 hp, 476ci W-engine really makes this car an animal.

Hit the link below to catch up on the project from our last update, which was about 10 months ago…a llifetime in the world of the interwebs!
