The Goldsmobile Is Back On The Road! New Fuel Tank, New Power Steering Pump, And More!

Right place, right time. That is simply the explanation as to how this 1972 Olds Cutlass has returned to the land of the living. The right person was told about the car and instead of being cut up as a hot rod, or instead of being “donated” as a tax write-off (which, in our world, means that it’s destined to be scrapped), the car was saved intact, with just a bit of age proving that the car was not absolutely babied from day zero. It’s what I call an “honest” car. You see what you get, and it’s what you would’ve seen twenty, thirty, forty years ago. Is that something that appeals to you?

Kevin’s work with the “Goldsmobile” has continued on, addressing the aspects of the Cutlass that needed attention after several decades of non-use. The fuel tank had to come out, which normally might be a simple task for most, but trust me…the second you think something is simple, it can and it will kick your ass. Two bolts and two straps will work your nerves if you aren’t careful. Then there’s the power steering pump, something that we both recently did on our cars, something we both weren’t looking forward to doing.

It’s one thing to own a keeper. It’s another altogether to have saved it and fixed it yourself. Hopefully that’s this Oldsmobile’s fate, it’s just that damn good.
