RacingJunk Find: Andy McCoy Race Cars Is Selling Their Bad Ass Carbon Fiber 1969 Chevelle Bodies….WOW!

Pro mod bodies range from the cool to the totally bizarre. Over the years different styles have become super popular. There was the 1963 Corvette era, the Willys era, the Studebaker era, and now we seem to be living in the Camaro era. There are LOTS of first generation Camaro pro mods out there, far more than other styles as far as we can tell. Andy McCoy Race Cars has been a light of diversity in the pro mod world. McCoy has released some really cool bodies over the years like the Duster from a few years back but this Chevelle is by far his coolest yet, in our opinion anyway.

McCoy is offering them in a few different “models”. For about $7,100 you can have it in fiberglass and the body weighs 90lbs. Pretty good, right? For $13,160 you can have the body in bare carbon fiber with a weight of 60lbs. That’s also very cool, but there’s one more step you can opt for. If you are really looking to make an impression on your friends and fellow racers you can opt for the $20,000 “clear carbon” package which saves you an additional 9-11 lbs (per the ad). Additionally, you’re off the hook for any paint and body work because the body comes to you having already had a typical automotive clear coat sprayed over it to protect the shell from the negative effect of UV rays. Depending on how anal you are on the paint and body end of your drag car, the $20,000 may not be that much more than a $7,000 body you go whole hog on in the paint booth.

You know what the next thing we’re going to say is. We want to see someone show up with one of these babies on Drag Week! There are already carbon bodied cars out there so it wouldn’t be unprecedented but it would be the meanest looking piece on the road, especially with a mondo twin turbo engine and a flat hood although the look of the big blown engine as shown in the photos is very tough to beat.

The body in the photos below is the $20,000 “clear carbon” piece. We think it is very, very cool. Scroll down, check out the photos and then hit the link for more info. What do you think?

Wow. I have always liked the 69 Chevelle style, and this is really gorgeous. That finished car is spectacular.

Man, whhat a beautiful car. I was thinking clear, as in similar to what RC cars had. Clear lexan, they get painted on the underside, so the thin layer of lexan is actually the clearcoat.
