Today marks the 81st anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history. It was on this date in 1941 that the Japanese Navy attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On that day more than 2,400 lost their lives and nearly 1,300 were wounded. The event thrust the country into WWII.
If you are fortunate enough to have a family member who was alive during this era and is still with us, pick up the phone and call them. As those of us who view September 11, 2001 as a day that changed our collective worlds, so do they remember December 7, 1941. A simple action like that will surely go a long way to someone we can virtually guarantee will be thinking of how that day altered their lives.
Many people have no idea what this day signifies in the history of our country. Shameful as that may be, it is even more imperative for those of us who do know the gravity of this date to keep it in our hearts. The greatest generation was born on December 7, 1941, rising up from the burning wrecks of battleships resting in oily waters. Take a moment and thank them for it.
Well said.
DITTO.
not only keep it our hearts and remember but educate any one who will listen
