We all love to take our iron out and let it run, but with the rising speed limits on the Interstates, owners of older Chrysler products might think twice about running their muscle cars out on the open road at the new legal speeds. Or maybe you just want your older Mopar to get better fuel mileage than what you are currently seeing now. Either way, American Powertrain now has an answer for Chrysler B-body and E-body owners! While it is true that they do a lot of work involving manual transmissions, they also deal with automatics, and their answer to the overdrive question is here in the form of the new Super Shift Kit for B- and E-body Mopars.
The Super Shift Kit packs everything you will need to convert your B- or E-body Mopar over to an overdrive automatic. It uses the proven 700R4 design, and is built in-house to withstand a minimum of 500 ft/lbs of torque (and upgrades are available), equipped with a .70 overdrive gear to make Interstate drives a pleasant affair instead of a stress-inducing ride. The tailshaft is low and will clear the torsion bar crossmember, and there’s no major electronics to hook up to make the transmission happy. And you don’t need to cut your stock floorpan to fit it, either. Just install it in a weekend and you’re done.
The kit comes complete: you get the adapters and bell housing for whatever engine you have, be it LA, B, RB or Hemi, and a hand built torque converter with your choice of stall speed. The flexplate, cross member, drive shaft, stock looking shifter, TV and speedo cables, trans cooler and instructions are also included, and everything is covered by American Powertrain’s 1-year warranty and 24-hour tech support hotline.
A complete kit, front to back, start at $3,495 and are available now. A-body Mopar guys, don’t feel left out; a kit for your Dart, Duster or A-body ‘Cuda is coming soon.
