DIY Metal Fab: Steel Plate HAMMER FORMING!! Step By Step with Simple Tools – G10 Van Battery Tray

There are several ways to make fairly complex sheet metal parts in your own home shop, but few have the factory appearance and satisfaction that hammer forming provides. Karl Fisher at Make It Kustom is a huge fan of hammer forming and has had a few different tutorials on it, but this one is going to be a little different. First off, this one is made from steel plate rather than MDF like his usual hammer forms, which is pretty cool and makes for a very robust and durable hammer form that should last forever.

That may not sound like it matters, and sometimes it doesn’t, but on something like a battery tray I could see myself making plenty of these over the years which makes them handy to have sticking around. If you haven’t seen hammer forming before, don’t worry, this is going to be a very informative step-by-step video that shows you everything you need to know to make really nice parts. Check it out.

Video Description:

On this episode of Make It Kustom, I build a battery tray from scratch for my Chevy G 10 van with simple tools and techniques. I Explain building a steel plate hammer form step-by-step to achieve a complex part.
