Flathead Tech: How Ardun Overhead Valve Heads Work On A Flathead Ford

Ardun heads are the ultimate upgrade for a Flathead Ford V8 engine. Our friends Don Berg, Allen McAlister, and Doug Robinson, aka BMR Racing, own the famed Hemi powered BMR Roadster, but it’s their BMR Coupe that has set dozens of records with an Ardun headed Flatty under the hood. It has been way over 200 mph, is so period correct that we can’t help but want to touch it, and the guys are so fun and knowledgable that you can’t help but learn things if you hang out with them. I’ve been a member of The Milers for more than 10 years now, which seems crazy, and have been lucky enough to see the Ardun heads both on and off the coupe. They are a truly awesome speed part and you want to check out how they work.

Below is a video showing just that, including how they are installed, how their valvetrain is activated, and what happens to the stock short block in order to accommodate the new heads.

There are also some tips and tricks to keeping them happy and sealed up, so make sure you pay attention while watching. You never know when a set of Ardun heads might fall in your lap and you’ll want to know how to use them. This video features Ronnie Roadster, who drives a blown Ardun headed Flatty regularly, so he kinda knows what he’s talking about.
