Is There Really A Difference Between 3/8 And 1/2 Inch Impact Gun Power?

If you have been living under a rock, then you might not realize that battery-powered tools are quickly becoming the norm where air tools once reigned supreme. In particular, people are choosing cordless battery-powered impact guns for removing wheels, large fasteners on engines, suspension parts, and more. They make big power, are available in a variety of sizes for different jobs, and work really well without the sound of an air compressor in the background. I own a couple of 1/4 inch impact drivers but haven’t stepped up to a 3/8 or 1/2 inch unit just yet. So when I came across this test by the Torque Test Channel, I was intrigued.

What are the real differences between the two sizes of impact guns? And could a 3/8 drive impact actually be stronger than a 1/2 inch drive model? Rumor has it that they just might be the stronger of the two. Watch.

Here is the video description:

For as long as we can remember, there have been rumors swirling around about the power of a 3/8″ vs 1/2″ impact. Does 3/8″ inherently make less torque? Do brands force it to make less torque on identical models? We find out like never before. Torque of TTC is working for Astro Tools who also make impact wrenches (air). TTC is not the only testing out there, always consider multiple sources when looking at a tool!
