NO CNC HERE: Watch Scrap Steel Become Spur Gears Using Only Manual Machines!

We’ve got another Pakistani manufacturing video to share, and this one is pretty cool too. Not only are there no fancy machines being used, but the ones that are, look to be 100 years old. With that said, these guys using them seem to have this down pat and get the job done. I wonder how long it really takes to build a complete spur gear, and how long that same part would take to make in the United States using modern CNC machines.

In this video, you are going to see a piece of salvaged high-strength steel go from being a rough circle into a blank ready to become a spur gear. After that, the blank is undercut, drilled, and finished so that the teeth in the gears can be cut with another machine. There is nothing that will stop this cutter as it chews right through the high-strength steel tooth by tooth.

got to use a pipe on tightening everything. who taught these yahoo’s to set up and run machines. the machines aren’t that old. cross slide only has at least one turn backlash. lol. machines are probably around 1950. and the steel is nothing special.
my hendey lathe is 1910 and still works.
