Camshaft selection has always been a tough one for people, regardless of the engine platform. It all depends on how much power you want, how you are going to use the vehicle, and what other modifications you have done or are willing to do. That is until the LS engine came around. Yes, all those things still matter, but when you have an engine platform that already has some compression, already has great flowing cylinder heads, and already has an induction system that can keep up, it makes the decision harder. Because just about all the camshafts will work, it just depends on how rowdy you want it and what rpm you plan to use it at. And never before have you been able to make such good power numbers with such small camshafts, so it becomes an even harder decision.
Luckily we have Richard Holdener, who works so hard to test so many things and who has all the tests known to man when it comes to LS engines. In the video below he compares some camshafts to help you decide which one is best!

WHICH CAM IS BEST FOR MY LS? TRUCK CAM OR PERFORMANCE CAM? PICKING THE CAM THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR APPLICATION IS ACTUALLY NOT TERRIBLY DIFFICULT. CHECK OUT THIS TEST COMPARING THE STOCK LM7 5.3L CAM TO A TRIO OF BTR TRUCK CAMS AND A MORE PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED GRIND FROM COMP CAMS. WHICH ONE OF THE TRUCK CAMS IS THE BEST CHOICE? HOW MUCH MORE POWER DOES THE BIGGER, WILDER COMP CAM MAKE THAN THE MILDER TRUCK CAMS? HOW DO THEY ALL COMPARE TOT HE STOCK CAM? WHICH ONE(S) WILL REQUIRE A CHANGE IN CONVERTER? IT’S ALL HERE!
