We all laugh at the dumb stuff that we see on the internet, especially those that we “know” will never work and probably cause something or someone to be hurt. It’s human nature. It’s like watching a train wreck, because you know it’s bad but you can’t stop watching. But sometimes you see something like this DIY brake rotor resurfacing hack and think to yourself that there is no way that works in real life and yet you never see anyone else actually try it other than whoever shot the short video where it seems to be working.
But that is about to change, as the goofballs at Garage 54 are going to try this Tik Tok brake surfacing hack to see if it actually works, is super scary, tears stuff up, or some combo of the three.
So here is the gist of this one.
The hack is to take two sharpening stones and then clamp them to your brake rotor, in the spot where your brake pads would normally sit. That way the stones don’t move around and the clamp puts pressure on them to rub against the rotor and finish them smoothly. The car is put into gear for this so that the rotor in question is turned by the engine. There are on car brake lathes for doing this kind of work, but they certainly don’t work like this. This makes sense, but at the same time feels both sketchy and ineffective. Lets see.
