Bonneville Video: The Flower of Scotland – An International Streamliner Team on the Salt

Bonneville Video: The Flower of Scotland – An International Streamliner Team on the Salt

The lure of the Bonneville knows no bounds and creates some interesting partnerships among gearheads. This video is a very neat look at the Flower of Scotland streamliner team and profiles their efforts to set a 300+ mph record on the salt with a motorcycle powered ‘liner. The team is led by an Englishman, has a crew that is comprised of Scots, Frenchmen, and a Texan or two throw in for good measure.

One of the things that we really love about the competitors on the salt is their near fanatical appreciation for the history of Bonneville and land speed racing. To hear the way they talk about the potential company they could join if the car ran hard enough is neat because of the level of respect and wonder you can hear in their voices.

It is hard enough to field a Bonneville car if you live here in the good ol’ USA. We can barely fathom the level of investment and planning needed to have an operation across the ocean, transport it all to the US, run it balls out, and send it all back over to Europe again when the event is finished. The team is working hard to come up with a major sponsor for 2012 so they can return to the salt. They have some leads and some media action in the works, so we hope against hope that they can get themselves back to Utah for Speed Week 2012. We’ll be there, we hope they will be there, too!

This video is great, from both the perspective of the content and gearhead side and the film making side. 13-minutes of sheer bliss!

What a well done video. Best wishes to the ‘Flower of Scotland’ team in their quest to set a Land Speed Record. It is NOT as easy as it may look. It not only takes a good amount of money but a serious commitment and dedication to keep ‘going after it’ when things don’t go just the way you want or expect. Unless you have a sponsor there is no financial gain in the LSR pursuit making it the purest form of racing around. Good luck Mates!! Hope it happens for you.

Thanks for the kind words guys! If you like the video, please post this BangShift link everywhere for us, so I can get the hits up and go and beat on sponsors doors for a new gearbox for 2012!!!
Hoping to see you all on the Salt in the Summer… if you’ve never been… you have to!
Josh did a great job huh? Kid is going to go far… can’t recommend him highly enough if you’ve something worth filming!
Thanks for featuring us Bangshift… and if in doubt, FLAT OUT!

Great video, never knew there was a LSR team in Scotland. Impressive numbers for an engine of that size.
