Cayman, Meet Coyote: This Ford-Swapped Porsche Is Basically A Baby Ford GT!

Forget about the Gulf livery, and don’t sweat the details about how a Porsche Cayman got a Ford Coyote 5.0 jammed up it’s back end. Matt Farah will tell you all about the how and way as he drives the car around the picturesque California canyon roads. Instead, think about this: Ford’s most successful and legendary cars that aren’t called “Mustang” are mid-engined, V8 powered monsters. The original Ford GT40 in all of it’s iterations and the 2004-06 Ford GT are handlers, screamers and monsters. The GT40 was Henry Ford II promising Enzo Ferrari that his work boot was going to be jammed up il Commendatore‘s rear haunches with as much prejudice and retaliation that he could muster. The GT40 program was, in basic form, The Deuce telling Enzo to shove it, far and fast. The GT was a celebration of Ford’s centennial, which understandably deserved a special car to celebrate the milestone.

And it’d be unfair to note Porsche’s successes as well. The company’s bread and butter is high-performing sports cars, and while the evolutionary 911 has always taken the role of the flagship car, the Boxter-based Cayman has often been referred to as a spiritual successor to what the 911 initally was: a light, nimble and unbelievably fast sports car with the engine weight in the back. On it’s own accords, the Cayman can handle it’s own. But when it’s infused with Blue Oval V8, what fun can be had? Listen as Farah rows through the gears. It’s easy to picture this car tearing any roadcourse, any street rally, or any hillclimb a brand new one, isn’t it?
