Last week we told you about and showed you a wild 12-rotor Rotary style engine that was on a stand at the 2011 PRI show. In that blog item we mentioned wanting to hear it run. Well, we no longer have to want because video has surfaced of the big bastard fired up and making noise.
Remember, with twin turbos and 50lbs of boost heading through it, this motor makes more than 5,000hp per our discussion with the engine’s creator. It is roughly the size of a fully dressed big block Chevy, weights about 850lbs and displaces 960ci. According to the engine builder the first production version of this engine is heading for a car. A street car no less.
This video does not show the thing wailing at the 9,000 RPM recommended limit, but it does prove that the engine is a working piece and it sounds pretty neat. There’s a lot more of a deep tone to the sound than we expected. It should sound unholy at full tilt!
That has to be the single largest fuel injector I’ve ever seen.
