For That Smooth Feeling: The Modyssey Gets A Long-Travel Suspension Setup!

The last time we saw this Honda Odyssey, it had been stuffed full of snowmobile engine and was churning up dirt around Grind Hard Plumbing Co.’s “test area” with ease. It is a go-kart for adults and it behaves like a mini-rally car that’s being chased by angry hornets. That’s our kind of fun! We thought they were done with the Odyssey…but apparently, they were just getting started. If you look in the last video, you’ll see that the suspension of the Odyssey is pretty much stock, which means that the fluffy tires at the rear had to be most of the suspension. If you’ve ever ridden a Honda three-wheeler, you know what that really entails: a little bit of suspension and you hope you have enough sidewall flex to take care of the rest, or the saddle is going to knock you in the kids hard enough to have you seeing colored spots for a couple of minutes. Surely, if these two can jam a Polaris engine into this cage with wheels, then they can fab up a rear suspension that won’t break a spine.

The plan is simple: using Subaru parts (did he say “Brat”?) and some trigonometry to engineer everything properly, the Odyssey is going to get a long travel suspension kit for the rear. The front might still land like a brick on the pavement, but out back there should be a massive improvement in comfort when the guys huck this contraption around with reckless abandon. But before you get to the action shots, check out the actual construction that goes on inside the shop…great work being done here!
