Grande Revival: Waking Up A 1977 Peterbilt 359 That’s Been Out Of Service For Years

The year of automotive revivals isn’t done yet! It’s been awesome seeing videos of old vehicles that have been sitting forever and a day being brought back to life. It’s a testament to the people who develop the skills necessary to work on vehicles competently, people who know the difference between a proper re-awakening and just jamming a battery in, saying a quick prayer and hitting the key. We aren’t trying to dissuade anybody from digging out a vehicle that’s just been sitting, but cautioning you against just hoping for the best without doing some proper work first.

So, to the story on this rig: it’s a 1977 Peterbilt 359 with a Cummins Big Cam 400, a short nose and the flat dash. This is a dream rig to many and to the former owner, it had been a great work truck that hauled bulk tank and refrigerated units up until the year 2000, when the owner had to retire due to health issues in 2000. After moving from place to place, the truck ended up parked around 2011 in the spot you’ll see and had been last started three years ago, before the owner passed away.

After so long, how much work would you expect to put into a semi tractor that had been sleeping for quite some time? Here’s your only hint: it was a lot less than I was expecting for an older rig that had a long nap.

time capsule. huge tanks so the truck could bypass expensive diesel, larger cab so no need for a hotel…. I bet that thing was beautiful when it was parked.
    neat.
