Great Video: The Trailer For The Upcoming Documentary Series – Where They Raced – A Neat Look At Long Gone Tracks

Harold Osmer’s books Where They Raced and Where They Raced Lap 2 are essential reading for any fan of American racing history. The two books concentrate on the the amazing auto racing history of California and all of the various venues that existed over the years. The first book covered te dawn of racing until about 1990 and the second book added more tracks, lots of drag strips, and included a ton more cool photos from the deceased venues. Now Osmer has taken the idea to the next level and is working on a documentary series that takes us to the places where these track’s stood and even goes so far as to use old timey race cars to whip around the city streets and alleys that used to be part of racing facilities in California. This concept rules pretty hard (outside of the fact that we’re talking about dead tracks, of course).

As you’ll see in the trailer, Osmer and his team use old video and photos to tie the historic locations to what they look like now and it is pretty fascinating. We’re really looking forward to seeing these films when they are released. As racing history nerds, our thanks goes out to Osmer for preserving the memory and history of the tracks that long served as the foundation for the motorsports scene in America. Many Indy 500 winners, drag racing champions, stock car racers, and other stars were trained on these old dust bowl tracks and small strips.
