Historic Drag Racing Video: 1960s Drag Racing From Washington State

Historic Drag Racing Video: 1960s Drag Racing From Washington State

This fifteen and a half minute movie that depicts the people, places, and race cars of 1960s drag fiend gearheads in Washington state is pretty special. Yes, you’ll get to see Don Garlits run his car, but in our opinion the highlights of this video have nothing to do with the greatest drag racer who ever lived. All the rest of the people and things really make this film great.

Dragsters, gassers, shop trucks, roadsters, what looks to be a Henry J with a Hemi in the passenger seat (seriously!), the shortest rear engine dragster ever built, and on and on, this one has something to every lover of drag racing history.

    Brian and Chad,

Thanks much for this film clip, brings back old old memories. Some of this looks like Eastern Washington; can anyone identify the tracks or towns?

    Back in the early 60?

This is g-damn cool. Pacific Raceways at about the 5 min. mark. Some Arlington, and Puyallup.
I will have some others view this to ID everything.

If you watch from the 12 minute mark you will se the late Jerry Berschauer and the Horsepower rail at Ellensburg i believe. Note the Jerry’s Auto supply Nomad and the Mooneyes on the yellow push van. Great footage. Little brother Ron is the pitcrew guy in the blue jacket.

What great memories. The video was made for Jerry’s relatives ane is fun that it made it to the internet. Since I was the one behind the camera, it was filmed mostly at the old Ellensburg Raceway, Shelton and Arlington.

What great fun! Wish they had camers with sound back then. Bought my first parts at Jerry’s in Wenatchee back in the 60s.
