Historic Drag Video: Awesome Old Footage of 427-Powered Comets and Fairlanes

After continuing to lust after the RacingJunk find Comet Cyclone we showed you a while ago, we went searching out cool Comet videos on YouTube and managed to hit the mother load. Ronnie Sox, Dyno Don, Jack Chrisman, Ed Schartman, Bill Lawton, and more legends are featured in this video. It’s old 8mm film of these guys in their heyday. These cars were terrors on the strip!

Chrisman’s car was the wild card of the bunch as it featured a blown motor that was also burning nitro. If you want to start a fight, call it the first Funny Car. It’s a debate that has raged for ages.

There’s no argument- Dyno Don and Fast Eddie had the first real funny cars. Flip-top body, escape hatch, nitromethane, 7 sec et’s = Funny Car. Don’t believe me- study your history.
