Horrendous Fire Video: A Nitrous Pro Mod Burns to the Ground in a Worst Case Scenario

Horrendous Fire Video: A Nitrous Pro Mod Burns to the Ground in a Worst Case Scenario

The tip box was hot this weekend and we mean literally hot. The previous video, featuring the nitrous explosion from across the pond was followed by this pair of videos showing one of the most violent and catastrophic nitrous aided fires we’ve run across. The victim of this blazing inferno was Pro mod racer Joe Alsworth, and it happened at the Las Vegas Super Chevy Show a couple of weeks back.

You’ll see the fire from two perspectives, one from the right wall and one from the left. Unfortunately for Alsworth, the destructive nature of this fire was aided by forces far outside of his control.

You’ll see the car erupt in flame after a nitrous backfire blows the top of the intake manifold off and rips the fuel system and nitrous system wide open. You’ll hear track officials screaming, “shut the power off!” That would have killed the fuel pump and allowed the fire and safety people to douse the car quickly. Unfortunately for Alsworth, the wind, which was blowing strongly, directed the fire to the back corner of the car where the shut off apparently was. This results in torrents of fuel and ultimately all of the nitrous on board being funneled into the fire.

This is ugly and we really feel for Joe Alsworth!

How many times must safety people be told?
Put the nozzle at the BASE OF THE FIRE, not the top! No wonder it took so long to control.

Thanks Studemax, the armchair expert strikes again. Wow, man you’re always right! How do you manage it eh? Sheesh, what a dork… Yea, how many times must these safety guys be told? Maybe they can’t hear you from your den….
