Movie Car Chase: A 1971 Aussie Charger Vs. A NASCAR Oldsmobile Square Off In The Movie “Metal Skin”!

Movie Car Chase: A 1971 Aussie Charger Vs. A NASCAR Oldsmobile Square Off In The Movie “Metal Skin”!

Straight off of the bat I have to admit that I know jack-all about the 1994 movie “Metal Skin”. I wasn’t hunting down a car chase scene when I stumbled across this gem…I was actually trying to find any possible film of Buddy Arrington’s NASCAR Imperial in YouTube. But typing in “NASCAR Chrysler” into the search bar handed me this car chase on a silver platter, and it’s an interesting one, starring a V8-swapped Chrysler Charger that is packed with all of the blower noise and a “NASCAR Oldsmobile”, which we suspect to be an early W-body style Cutlass…though it’s painted up to look like one of Mark Martin’s Valvoline Thunderbirds. Supposedly “Metal Skin” was to be about teenage problems and “suburban hopelessness”…you can figure that one out. If any of our Aussie readers want to fill us in on just what led up to this monster of a chase, please, feel free to let us know in the comments below. Meanwhile, we’re just going to sit here and speculate as to what’s really going on under that Charger’s hood.

That car looks a lot like the Olds Cutlass that Max Dumsney raced in the short lived Australian NASCAR Championship. Even has the ‘Thunderdome’ logo across the front windshield.
Max was for a long time backed by Valvoline, and I’m pretty sure he won the local championship with this car in 92 or 94 or something.

Psycho Joe\’s car was stolen by his arch rival Dayzey in response to Joe\’s trip off the edge with a revolver.

Its an in line D series 265 Hemi 2-bbl Auto Charger 770 Auto, with a 500 cfm Holley 4412, and an elaborate blower on the other side to make it hit the 200 km/h mark (Speedo is in metrics, but thats 126 mph at the wire stopper). It has the R/T E37/49/55 quarter light cover, and a few of the old Bathurt E49 Charger Kaam tail leetering, just in case you don\’t know its a short wheel base Coupe offshoot from the humble Aussie Valiant sedan.
