Hot Rod Legend Dave Haskell Shows Us How To Chop The Top On A 5 Window Ford Coupe

Dave Haskell is one funny hot rod builder, and his tongue in cheek British humor cracks us up. But besides being funny, this guy knows his way around a body saw, and in this video he shows us how to chop the top on a 5 Window ’32 Ford Coupe. Not only does Dave chop the top 2 inches, but also sections the roof, leans the A-pillars back, shows us how to lead, and makes this couple look like one swoopy hot rod. The all steel car looks great in bare steel, and we would drive it until the wheels fell off. It rules.

So does Dave, because he makes all kinds of fun of the builders that apparently believe you must be a rockabilly guy with tons of memorabilia in your garage in order to chop a top or build customs. It’s awesome.

Other than the actual measuring and masking, which takes too much time to include in this video, Dave touches on the entire process of chopping the top of this cool hot rod, without ever being too serious. We’d love to hang out at his shop and learn a few things, that’s for sure. We’ve been wanting to chop the top on something for years, and this is the kind of video that inspires you and makes you want to go buy a steel body just to start chopping on it.

Click play below to watch the video and let us know what you think. Would you tackle a top chop yourself after watching it? We would!

And make sure you watch all the way through, because there are really funny out takes at the end of the video.

It’s a good video, but I think I’d want to assist someone who knows what they’re doing a few times before tackling one my self.
